More than two centuries

A community shaped by settlement, water and transportation

Native peoples were present in the region thousands of years before European settlement. Matthew Cully and his son David began a settlement near present-day Milford Center in the 1770s. The municipality was first organized as the Town of Suffrage in 1796 and adopted the name Milford in 1800.

Over time, mills, bridges, rail service, agriculture, schools and local institutions helped shape the town. Today, the community continues to preserve that history while serving current residents.
